4th SKILLBILL Plenary Meeting – Shaping the Future of Skills in Renewable Energy

On May 19th, 2025, the 4th SKILLBILL Plenary Meeting brought together all members from the four Working Groups—Electricity, Mobility, Fuels, and Heat—for a joint session focused on the future of skills and jobs in the renewable energy sector.

As the energy landscape continues to transform through digitalisation, decentralisation, and decarbonisation, the meeting addressed a key question: What skills and job profiles will be needed to support this transition?

Top Emerging Skills
Some of the most voted and discussed skills included:

Urgent:
• Designing integrated energy systems (PV, battery storage, hydrogen)
• Leadership and management coaching
• Using GIS tools for EV infrastructure planning
• Storytelling for new fuel technologies

Future-Relevant:
• Public speaking and communication
• Simulating energy and mobility scenarios with software
• Designing integrated systems across renewable technologies

Underdeveloped (needs long-term development):
• Operating small-scale Power-to-X and biomethane systems
• Improving knowledge transfer across sectors

Emerging Job Profiles
The meeting also focused on identifying the most relevant new job profiles in the renewable energy space. After collaborative brainstorming and voting, the following roles were prioritised:

  1. Green Mobility Infrastructure Planner
  2. Sustainable Fuel Technology Advisor
    Green Tech Vocational Trainer
  3. Energy Community Facilitator
