Last week marked a significant milestone for the SKILLBILL project, with a series of key activities successfully completed in Brussels, marking the nearing completion of our journey.
On June 25th, partners from across Europe met for the final project meeting, where critical discussions focused on reviewing progress, aligning on remaining deliverables, and ensuring a smooth and timely completion by August 2025. The gathering boosted the already existing collaborative atmosphere, with all consortium members fully informed and prepared for the upcoming final reporting phase.
Earlier the same day, SKILLBILL hosted its second Mobilization and Mutual Learning Workshop at the EREF offices in Brussels. A vibrant platform for knowledge exchange, drawing on the lessons and achievements of the project’s three-year journey. Discussions emphasized the crucial role of bridging skills gaps by uniting academia and industry perspectives, advocating for a joint approach to workforce development in the renewable energy sector.
The crescendo of SKILLBILL’s final week was the co-organisation of the Sustainable Futures Conference, held at the Comet Louise venue in Brussels. This event brought together four Horizon Europe projects – SKILLBILL, BlueRev, BlueBioClusters, and Engage4BIO – under a shared mission to advance green energy, circular bio-based systems, and innovative governance frameworks.
From keynote speeches and dynamic panel discussions to interactive booth sessions, the conference showcased tangible project results and brougth valuable networking opportunities. The event highlighted cross-sectoral skills challenges faced in both renewable energy and bio-based industries, and how collaborative innovation can drive Europe’s green transition. The thematic panels and World Café sessions sparked deep discussions on workforce development, stakeholder engagement, value chain innovation, and sustainable business models, laying out actionable strategies for a resilient and inclusive bioeconomy.
As SKILLBILL enters its final phase, it is evident that collective efforts demonstrated throughout the project reaffirm the importance of collaboration, shared vision, and continuous learning to build a skilled, adaptive workforce ready to meet the challenges of the energy transition.
