As part of the ongoing efforts in the SKILLBILL European Master Specialization Program, we are excited to highlight two pivotal courses currently being offered in Period 2: Renewable Heat Technologies and Sustainable Heat in the Built Environment. These courses are integral to the “Renewable and Sustainable Heat” pillar, providing students with critical knowledge and practical skills in renewable heat vectors and their applications.
The Renewable Heat Technologies course, coordinated by Dr. Javanshir Fouladvand from Utrecht University, provides a detailed program that delves into the design and analysis of various renewable heat technologies. This course is essential for students aiming to master the intricacies of renewable biofuels, solar heating, geothermal heating, heat pumps and heat exchangers. Students are introduced to the core principles and technological advancements in these areas, including the operational mechanisms and design strategies of geothermal systems, techniques for capturing and utilizing waste heat and more. The course employs Virtual Reality (VR) material to provide a hands-on learning experience, allowing students to engage with complex concepts in a more interactive way. Study materials, including lecture slides and additional literature, are accessible through the Moodle platform ensuring that students are well- prepared to grasp the advanced concepts presented throughout the course.
The Sustainable Heat in the Built Environment course, also coordinated by Dr. Javanshir Fouladvand, addresses the socio-technical complexities involved in designing sustainable thermal energy systems for buildings. This course focuses on improving energy efficiency, achieving sustainability in buildings and understanding green building rating systems, regulations and policies. Students explore strategies to reduce energy consumption, improve building performance, including effectively integrating heat pumps and solar energy systems into building designs. The course covers the necessary regulations and policies that guide sustainable building practices, ensuring that students understand the legal and economic aspects of sustainable design. Virtual Reality (VR) technology is also utilized in this course, to provide an engaging and practical learning experience.
As the SKILLBILL European Master Specialization Program continues, these courses in Period 2 offer invaluable opportunities for students to deepen their expertise in renewable heat technologies and sustainable practices in the built environment. Follow SKILLBILL to stay updated on our mission to reskill and upskill the renewable energy sector!
